Commonly Asked Questions

As Paranormal Detectives ourselves, we understand that curiosity and questions naturally come with exploring the unknown. This FAQ page is here to provide clear answers about our paranormal investigation equipment, and approach. Whether you’re interested in getting started or have been a lifelong detective, you’ll find helpful information below.

What type of batteries or power sources are best for ghost hunting equipment?

I use rechargeable lithium batteries in all of my devices and lithium power packs to charge devices which use USB type connections.

How should I store and maintain my paranormal investigation tools?

Paranormal equipment can be very expensive so great care in the handling and storing of it is required.  Prior to any investigation, I make sure all of my equipment is fully charged and working properly.  There is nothing more frustrating than turning on a device while investigating only to find it’s not working, the batteries need replacing, or that a component is missing.

Can paranormal gear be used in daylight or only at night?

The IR camera is to be used at night along with other devices which light up when activated. However, you can use most paranormal equipment for daytime or nighttime investigations.  Spirits can be present at any time.

What are the most important ghost hunting tools to bring on an investigation?

For beginners, I would recommend a digital recorder and an EMF detecting device.  After that, it all depends upon how much you are willing to spend and carry with you on an investigation.

What is the best way to document evidence during a ghost hunt?

Videotaping your investigations will capture visual as well as audio evidence.  This will also allow you to orally add additional, relevant information at the time of the investigation.

How do paranormal tools like the Trip Wire+ detect energy changes?

The Trip Wire+ and the basic Trip Wire use independent microprocessor controlled EMF sensors which are designed to be very sensitive to EMF.  These sensors are located along a power cable and will visually light up when responding to EMF.  (The Trip Wire+ also has an additional sound on/off feature.)  Investigators can see where the EMF hit was most intense by the location and color of the responding light sensors.  The Trip Wire+ is easily carried and extremely versatile with the ability to be placed in almost any location.

Do I need night vision or infrared cameras for a paranormal investigation?

These cameras are not required, but greatly enhance your evidence collecting ability.  Some anomalies are only seen in the IR spectrum.  An infrared camera will capture temperature and heat anomalies, but be prepared to pay high prices for decent thermal resolution cameras.

Can paranormal detection tools like EMF meters pick up false readings?

Yes, very much so.  Live electrical power lines in a building are always suspected of triggering EMF hits.  Be careful of cell phones, walkie talkies, and other electrical devices that are in the area. Even lightning strikes, which may be miles away, could trigger EMF devices  However, If you are knowledgeable about your environment, you can obtain valid EMF evidence.

Which paranormal investigation gear is best for beginners?

Personally, I would start out using a digital recorder and doing EVP sessions. Properly conducted EVP sessions will give the investigator hours of work listening to and filtering through audio to uncover hidden spirit voices.

How does an EMF detector work for ghost hunting?

It is believed by the paranormal community that spirits can either emit EMF or can manipulate it on command.  A properly used EMF device could possibly detect and communicate with these spirits.

What is the difference between the Trip Wire 12+ and Trip Wire 36+?

The Trip Wire+ comes in two lengths. The Trip-Wire 12+ is 12 ft long with 10 evenly spaced sensors, and the Trip-Wire 36+ is 36 ft long with 12 evenly spaced sensors.
